The UK’s incredibly popular Snowman 50p coin is to be followed up by a brand new Gruffalo 50p coin.

To commemorate 20 years of the beloved Julia Donaldson character the Royal Mint are releasing a special Gruffalo 50p. To celebrate two decades of iconic children's book The Gruffalo, the beloved. The Gruffalo 50p Coin celebrating 20 years since The Gruffalo was first published. A new Gruffalo 50p coin was released on Tuesday 19th February 2019 by The Royal Mint to celebrate 20 years since the publication of the book – The Gruffalo® The coin has been issued as a Brilliant Uncirculated, Silver Proof and Gold Proof limited editions. Oct 07, 2020 A set of 50p coins marking the 20th anniversary of The Gruffalo has proven so popular that keen customers crashed the Royal Mint’s website. On Tuesday, the Royal Mint launched the limited. The Royal Mint have now announced that this highly anticipated coin will be available to order from the 19th of February! With just over a week to go, we can’t wait to finally see the Gruffalo 50p!

The new Gruffalo 50p is expected to be released by The Royal Mint in 2019

According to the Royal Proclamation, published on 9 November there will be a new coin:

– A depiction of the Gruffalo accompanied by the inscription “THE GRUFFALO”.

The coin will be issued in 2019 to celebrate 20 years of Julia Donaldson’s The Gruffalo, with commemorative collector’s editions in Cupro-Nickel and Silver being made available. It is not yet clear whether this coin will be issued for circulation.

The next 50p collecting craze?

Although all the details have not been released yet and the actual design is still top secret, it seems likely that the Gruffalo 50p coin will be as popular with the British public as Peter Rabbit and friends have proved over the last three years.
